How do you legally use music and footage from other sources?

Learn the ins and outs of music and footage licensing from this panel of experts:

Sascha Ciezata, Filmmaker
Sasha has made a name for himself with his quirky lo-fi iPhone animations. In 2010 he made a short film using audio of David Lynch talking about an absurd meeting with George Lucas. The video became an instant success, bringing acclaim from Lucas, Lynch and other luminaries. All was going great until an obscure organization claimed ownership of the audio and caused the animation to be removed from the internet, spurring a debate over the nature of creativity and ownership

George Rush, Attorney
George specializes in a full range of services in the entertainment and intellectual property law with emphasis in independent film. George also provides distribution advisory services on a case by case basis.

Maryam Soleiman, Director of Licensing/Business Affairs, The Rights Workshop, Inc.
Ms. Soleiman handles a wide range of music supervision and clearance projects for producers in film and television, video game & app developers, advertising and corporate executives, as well as new media entrepreneurs. Her specializations include rights and clearance, music licensing negotiation, music publishing, and strategic content licensing.

Daniel Hayek, Vimeo
Daniel is a community director at Vimeo.com, which has recently launched the Vimeo Music Store, a new model for licensing music for online video.

Moderated by Michael Behrens, San Francisco Film Society
Michael started and manages the SF Film Society’s Film Craft & Film Studies, Film Arts Forum, and Behind the Scenes programs. He has worked in theater film and television for the last 15 years and has lectured on topics from Shakespeare to Social Justice Documentary at universities around the world. Currently, he is in production on two feature documentary films, MY GARBAGE MY NEIGHBORHOOD for Laccolith Films and THE NAKED BRAND for Questus Advertising (Ad Agency of the Year 2011).   Michael has also produced the award-winning films KUNJO (2010) and CLIMATE CHANGE (2009), which appeared in festivals around the world. Michael holds a Master of  Nonprofit Administration from the University of San Francisco and consults regularly for nonprofits and filmmakers.
