BETHANY OWEN—actress / comedienne / voice impressionist / singer-dancer
Two time international winner for “Best Female Voice Impressionist”, Las Vegas, NV.
Born in Wichita, Kansas, Owen moved to Seattle, Washington with her family and began her formative years in the entertainment industry in the Pacific Northwest, but now calls Huntington Beach, CA home. Owen’s career has taken her to every platform of the industry including such areas as live stage, television and film work from L.A., Las Vegas, Miami and New York to international destinations like Caribbean resorts, India, Germany, the Philippines and Aruba. She completed a 13,000 mile national show tour of casino showrooms and historic FOX theaters in 2009 and just completed a 20-month performance schedule which began on Mothers Day, May 9th, 2010 and ended on December 31st, 2011 at the Horizon Casino – Lake Tahoe, Owen is the consecutive two-time international winner in Las Vegas, Nevada for “Best Female Voice Impressionist” through the IGCITA.
In Seattle at the age of six, Bethany began her formal ballet training with Frances Medley. Over the following years, Bethany not only continued to study ballet, but also tap, flamenco and jazz. By the time she was fourteen, she was a seasoned soloist dancer and at fifteen became a member of the Orange County Ballet Theatre under the direction of Michel Panaieff. After a few years of performing classic ballets with the Russian trained masters at the ballet company, Bethany decided to try her hand as a choreographer and a stage singer and joined a Los Angeles Top 40 show band.
Bethany performed with her band from LA and worked showrooms in Vegas, Reno, and Lake Tahoe for the next 4 years. It was during this time that she performed her very first impression...that of Edith Bunker singing *Those Were The Days* for a TV medley routine. Ironically, what neither the band nor Bethany realized was that her Edith impression would be an instant hit with audiences and this opened up a whole new career path for her as a voice impressionist.
Much to the dismay of the band's members, Bethany's spotlight grew as she became the lead singer and performed songs as: Carol Channing, Barbra Streisand, Mary Hartman, Helen Reddy, Charo, Julie Andrews, Dolly Parton, Carmen Miranda and Cher...and the crowds always wanted more.
Bethany eventually parted from the band and transformed her singing act into a fresh and creatively written standup comedy routine that included impressions and singing parodies of famous celebrities and the rest as they say "is history".
A few abbreviated working credits beyond starring on the Las Vegas strip as the female headline voice Impressionist for the two-year run of “Comedy Kings” for the Sid and Marty Krofft Puppets and her own one-woman show, were appearances on Larry King Live, MADtv, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Brian De Palma’s movie “Body Double” as Norma Desmond, a “Frankie Goes to Hollywood” music video, a starring role with Alvin and the Chipmunks as Marilyn Monroe in their hit animated Macarena music video, the voice of Cher in the MTV claymation “Celebrity Death Match” TV series, as well as performing with The Temptations, Joe Piscopo, Mickey Rooney, John Byner and appearances on MTV, FOX, CBS and at Harrah's Casino, MGM Grand, The Sands Casino, Maxim Casino, NCL Cruise Ships, The Hollywood Cinegrille and many more performance credits to her name.
A few highlights of Bethany’s career have been Ms. Orange County 1973, traveling and performing her own one-woman show in India, headlining at the Stratosphere Casino on the Las Vegas strip, working on a recording project in Nashville, Tennessee with country music legend, Dolly Parton, performing on Canouan Island in the Grenadines - a Donald Trump owned tropical hide-away resort in the South Caribbean - and least we not forget, taking the coveted first prize on the Gong Show for her comedic musical impression as Cher accompanied by her Sonny Bono puppet performing a duet of “I Got You Babe.”
