Digital Distribution: A New Frontier
With a case study of the new film Brooklyn Castle
Presented by Steven Beckman, Head of Acquisitions at FilmBuff
The internet is not only a place to watch viral videos, but is now a budding environment for filmmakers to launch their work. However, there are many different tactics to a successful digital release. What each route has in common is a pioneering spirit and a strategic plan for a multi-platform release. Individual filmmakers can succeed at online distribution on their own, but an experienced partner with established relationships can be the ace in the hole. FilmBuff's Head of Acquisitions will share the inner workings of digital distribution and the state of indies with a focus on the critically acclaimed documentary, Brooklyn Castle.
Brooklyn Castle tells the stories of five members of the chess team at a below-the-poverty-line inner city junior high school. It will appear on iTunes and all other VOD platforms beginning February 5th.
“If you want to see what may well be the most optimistic, inspiring and downright thrilling movie released all year – then absolutely do not miss Katie Dellamaggiore’s documentary Brooklyn Castle” – Andrew O’Hehir, Salon
