Dickens Literary Salon - The Old Curiosity Shop
Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM (EDT)
First published as part of the periodical Master Humphrey’s Clock, The Old Curiosity Shop centers on Nell Trent, who wanders England with her senile grandfather, pursued by the villainous Quilp. Dickens intended Nell as the embodiment of pure goodness. The reading public took Nell to their hearts, and millions of people shed tears at her long-foreshadowed death near the end of the novel.
