This 1-day course is designed by the IL Assoc. of Energy Raters (IAER) to introduce the skills necessary to become a Duct and Envelope Tightness (DET) Verifier, certified to perform the diagnostic testing required for new homes by the 2012 IL Energy Code. If you've been thinking about getting BPI or HERS Certified but can't yet make the investment, this DET Verifier certification can be your bridge into offering home performance testing services.
After successful completion of this course, you will be able to test the leakage of a building envelope and duct system, and evaluate the results as measured against Illinois code requirements. Specific topics include:
-Protocols for blower door and duct leakage testing
-Calculations for ACH50 and percent duct leakage
-Tips for successfully completing the written and in-field DET Verifier certification exams (must pass with a 75% on both written and field exams)

Students must bring a calculator for the field and written exam. Class size limited to 16. CANCELLATION POLICY: All efforts will be made to accomodate rescheduling with more than one week's notice, but if the course is sold out no refunds or reschedulings will be made, as others have been turned away already. No refunds will be made in any case, so be sure you're coming before you sign up! You ARE, however, welcome to have someone else attend in your place.

- Watch the Math Basics for DET Verifiers video, to ensure your confidence with geometry and basic math calculations
- Take the DET Verifier Math Quiz (if you feel this quiz is over your head, PLEASE DO NOT waste your money on the training, only to fail your certification exams at the end of the day)

The Illinois Association of Energy Raters & Home Performance Professionals is a non-profit association of home performance consultants and building technicians specializing in new and existing homes. The members of the IAER use a 'Whole Home' approach to analyze building comfort, energy use, durability, and occupant safety. All professional members are certified by the national organizations RESNET or BPI, and are monitored for Quality Assurance by the Association.
