More on Derek Webb.
More on Justin McRoberts.
Following the performance, you are invited to participate in a conversation about the heart of Derek's Ctrl/SOLA-MI project; a look at the relationship between humanity and technology.
ABOUT THE EVENT:
On January 18, singer-songwriter Derek Webb will joining Justin McRoberts in concert. Derek will be performing songs from his Ctrl and SOLA-MI project. The project is a poignant look at the relationship between technology and humanity. As a fictional piece, the Ctrl / SOLA-MI project tells two parallel stories. One of a man in love with his fantasy life and using technology to inhabit and control his dreams. The other is the story of a machine waking up at the moment of the “singularity,” wishing to be real and inhabit a world she can only see from the outside. Thematically, the work speculates about a scenario in which humanity succumbs completely to the technology we believe is improving our lives, and thereby opens the door for something we don’t completely understand and cannot control.
ABOUT THE PANEL DISCUSSION:
I believe the questions raised by Derek’s project are vital, human and current. Furthermore, I think you would be a powerful voice in the conversation we plan on having around those questions. The panel will be made up of Justin McRoberts, Derek Webb and one of the members of a group called Digital Detox. The Digital Detox works with employees of companies like Google and Facebook, providing "a tech-free personal wellness retreat where attendees give up their smart-phones and gadgets. They create a space that gives individuals the freedom and permission they need to truly unplug and decompress."
