Urban Farming in SW Atlanta!
Mission: South West Atlanta Growers Cooperative (SWAG Co-op) is an organization based in the historic West End neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. Our mission is to develop and maintain a local, secure, healthy food system that is both environmentally and economically sustainable”. The south west of Atlanta is home to over 6 independently operated urban farms and community garden.
Range of Activities: Volunteers will help member farms and gardens with activities such as: Planting, Harvesting, Weeding, Mulching. Tools used will include hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hoes, wheelbarrows and pitchforks. There is also a need for activities such as lawn mowing, and weedwacking/edging. Other activities will include constructing raised beds, installing microirrigation systems and building barns, chicken coops, etc.
Things to Bring: Please bring water and snacks, as they are not always guaranteed. You may also want to bring insect repellant.
Clothing Requirement: Closed toe shoes are a MUST. We also suggest pants instead of shorts. Bring your gardening gloves. There will be extras on site.
