A TOPIC FOR LADIES
Deborah studied a BPRIM ED (Bachelor in Primary Education) at the University of Cape Town. She went on to do a Master’s in Education (Theory and Philosophy), and while doing this she met Gary Kirsten, whom she married four years later in 1999. Deborah taught at various primary schools overseas and in 1998/9 she supervised and ran Gary’s Benefit Year (i.e. event management). Deborah then entered the world of journalism. She began as a journalist for Food and Home magazine working mainly on food and travel articles. This kick-started a new and suitably more flexible career in journalism and she has worked as a freelance journalist ever since. For many years Deborah wrote a monthly woman’s column for Christian Living TODAY magazine as well as doing freelance work for various Women’s magazines (Marie Claire, Oprah Magazine etc). She has done extensive public speaking, especially at women’s groups, breakfasts or conferences. Finally, she is a mom and a wife which she feels is her primary calling. She is presently writing a book which will be released early next year.
