Event Details

The Dayton Human Relations Council, in collaboration with Wright State University's Bolinga Black Cultural Resource Center, is hosting a Dear Dr. Hip-Hop: Speak. Be Heard. Be Considered. event designed to urge an active community response in speaking out against crime, incivility, and gun violence. The 3-day event will serve as the conduit for conversation and empowerment; using hip-hop as the lens to explore multiple facets of community relations and cultivate young adult community activism.

 

Thursday, April 11th (6pm):  Community Kick-Off Rally with light dinner at Omega Baptist Church, 1821 Emerson Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45406. (Free event)

 

Friday, April 12th (9-12am):  Old School Hip-Hop Tribute: Stop the Violence Concert  featuring Recording Artist MC Lyte, Political Rapper Jasiri X, WuLords and Scratchmatic. Thurgood Marshall High School, 4447 Hoover Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45417. (Tickets required, $10)

 

Saturday, April 13th (10-1pm):  Speak. Be. Heard. Be Considered. Panel Discussion featuring  MC Lyte, Jasiri X, and Political Analyst Bakari Kitwana. Thurgood Marshall High School. Lunch and book signing with MC Lyte directly following discussion. (Registration required, Free event)
