The third meeting of the Best Practices Committee will take place on Friday, February 21 from 2-4 PM at the Academy of Hope (601 Edgewood St. NE). At this meeting, we will update everyone on our previous topics and progress (GED 2014, norming the practice test, and the OVAE roundtable), have a discussion around how different organizations are adjusting their curricula to the new GED, and break into sharing groups around each GED subject. At the end, as always, we will discuss topics for the next meetings.
If you are unfamiliar with the provenance or goals of this committee, please read the information below:
Last July a diverse group of adult education providers and supporters from all parts of the District gathered at Busboys and Poets to join forces in promoting more effective adult education in DC.
The first collective effort of the group was to promote the 2013 Adult Education and Family Literacy Week in DC (September), an effort that led to an exciting opening celebration downtown and a very successful adult education advocacy day at the Wilson Building.
Another shared goal for the large group was to develop ways for the adult education community to share best practices. To that end, we held our first Best Practices Committee meeting on November 22, 2013, and are continuing the discussion now!
This committee will focus on sharing best practices from accross the region in assessment, teaching, curriculum development, management, and more.
