The second meeting of the DC Adult Education Best Practices Committee will take place on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 1-3 PM at the Maya Angelou Young Adult Learning Center. At this meeting, we will discuss and share strategies and practices for preparing for and transitioning to the new GED test. Sharing will range from assessment to curriculum development to program management. Please come prepared to share what steps your organization has taken to prepare for the new test!
If you are unfamiliar with the provenance or goals of this committee, please read the information below:
Last July a diverse group of adult education providers and supporters from all parts of the District gathered at Busboys and Poets to join forces in promoting more effective adult education in DC.
The first collective effort of the group was to promote the 2013 Adult Education and Family Literacy Week in DC (September), an effort that led to an exciting opening celebration downtown and a very successful adult education advocacy day at the Wilson Building.
Another shared goal for the large group was to develop ways for the adult education community to share best practices. To that end, we held our first Best Practices Committee meeting on November 22, 2013, and are continuing the discussion now!
This committee will focus on sharing best practices from accross the region in assessment, teaching, curriculum development, management, and more.
