Come out for the DC Tri Club Nations Brick, Family Picnic and KAYAKING. Yes, Kayaking. (Let’s call it a Brickayak-Nic). Bring your families and friends to the 'Nic at the Key Bridge Boathouse!
When: Saturday, August 24, 2013. Brick at 7:30 am; Family Picnic at 9:30 am.
Where: Key Bridge Boathouse, 3500 Water Street NW, Washington, DC. For details, visit http://keybridgeboathouse.com/
Brick: Ride Clip-in at 7:30 am
Gear watch will begin at 7 am. The Saturday weekly training ride will roll through the boathouse. Follow the normal Saturday ride route and do whatever distance you desire. For details on the route, visit the Sat weekely ride forum thread on the club website.
Alternatively, for those that want a more casual ride, the suggested route is the Capitol Cresent/Beach Dr/Rock Creek Trail loop. Click here for the 19.3 mile loop map. NOTE: This loop takes you off the crushed gravel of the Georgetown Branch Trail. See the Capital Crescent Trail website for more info.
As always, helmets and a flat repair kit are REQUIRED. SAG will not be provided.
Feel free to run right after the ride, instead of the ride or anytime you wish. The run will be an out-and-back of your desired distance on the Capital Crescent Trail (paved) or the C&O Towpath (unpaved).
Family Style Potluck Brunch Picnic and Kayaking: 9:30 am-11:30 am
This will be a family style event! Come out, do a little biking, a little running, and a whole lot of fun socializing and kayaking (see below) with other DC Tri Club members and their families…or just come out and Picnic. Don’t forget to bring the kids; the BrickNic will be at Key Bridge Boathouse, right on the Potomac. The park is under the Key Bridge and right at the staet of the Capital Crescent Trail for a family ride or run. Kayaks will be made available by the boathouse starting at 8:00 am. KBBH hooked us up with a special group rate ($10/hr/person) to use the kayaks/SUP/Canoes. You’ll rent directly from the boathouse. Boating related question? Check here. This event will be the perfect opportunity to meet other Club members that are also busy parents. This will also be a great chance for those of you racing Nation’s Tri for the first time to get some advice from those who have raced it in the past. We’ve created a Forum Post to help facilitate parents wishing to coordinate child supervision for those interested during the Brick.
Additionally, Nation’s Tri will have representatives at the BrickNic answering questions and offering free handouts/swag!
With the early start for the picnic, we’re going to make this one a BRUNCH picnic for all you breakfast lovers out there. Burgers, dogs, veggie burgers, and fixings will be provided by the club. The rest (breakfast items, sides, desserts, drinks) is up to you!
Aa-Bu: Juice & Water (gatorade to be provided by Nation’s Tri)
By-Du: Side dish
Dv-Ha: Vegetarian option (side dish)
Le-Mo: Side dish (no chips)
Mr-Ri: Veggie side or Breakfast item
Rm-St: Dessert or Breakfast item
We’re looking for volunteers to help set-up, gear watch, man the grill, and clean-up. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
