The D.C. Art Science Evening Rendezvous (DASER) is a monthly discussion forum on art and science projects providing a snapshot of the cultural environment of the region and fostering interdisciplinary networking. This month, DASER explores the theme of technology and creativity in conjunction with the exhibition Every AlgoRiThm has ART in it: Treemap Project. ASL interpretation will be provided. 

PROGRAM

5:30 to 6:00 p.m. Check in. Ben Shneiderman will lead a tour of his exhibition in the adjacent gallery during check in and again during the reception.

6:00 to 6:15 p.m. Welcoming remarks and community sharing time. Anyone in the audience working at the intersection of art and science will have 30 seconds to share their work. Please present work a s ateaser so that those who are interested can seek you out during social time following the event.

6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Panelists' presentations (15 minutes each)

Jonah Brucker-Cohen, assistant professor of digital media and networked culture, Lehman College, City University of New York 

Jon Froehlich, assistant professor, Department of Computer Science and affiliate assistant professor, College of Information Studies, University of Maryland, College Park

Manuel Lima, designer, author, researcher, and lecturer, New York City

Ben Shneiderman, member of the National Academy of Engineering and distinguished university professor, University of Maryland, College Park

JD Talasek, facilitator, director, Cultural Programs, National Academy of Sciences, Washington, D.C.

7:15 to 8:15 p.m. Discussion

8:15 to 9:00 p.m. Reception. Ben Shneiderman will lead a tour of his exhibition in the adjacent gallery during the reception.

DASER is co-sponsored by Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences (CPNAS) and Leonardo, the International Society for the Arts, Sciences, and Technology. DASER fosters community and discussion around the intersection of art and science. The thoughts and opinions expressed in the DASER events are those of the panelists and speakers and do not necessarily reflect the positions of the National Academy of Sciences or of Leonardo.
