2:00pm - 5:00pm: Intermediate Mobile App Development on Apple iOS

Introduction to Mobile App Development on Apple iPhone and iPod Touch

Instructor:

Ingrid Mihai is a doctoral candidate at the GWU in the field of Computer Science. She has multiple masters degrees as well as experience both administering and programming various systems. She has experience developing mobile applications for non-profits in Washington DC. She has developed a number of Apps in support of innovative teaching and learning.

Prerequsites:

Basic programming experience. Knowledge of object oriented programming techniques

This course seeks to teach participants all the basic skills as well as understanding of the tools to develop basic applications on Apple's iPod and iPhone products.

The course will touch on the necessary languages (Objective C), resource files and APIs involved in building these applications.

Syllabus:
  • Languages – Objective C
  • Framework (Cocoa Touch) – MVC
  • Toolkit
  • Xcode
  • Simulator

Course goals:

Ability to develop a basic iPod/iPhone application Students would have produced two to three basic apps by the end of this course.

Intermediate Mobile App Development on Apple iPhone and iPod Touch

Instructor:

Attendance of the Basic course or knowledge and experience with the basic iPhone development

This course builds on the basic course in order to cover more advanced topics. Attendees will have developed multiple apps demonstrating sophisticate use of the available APIs . Additionally the instructor will cover a number of issues in mobile development including debugging of code , managing performance and handling resource leakage.

Course goals:

To develop sophisticated Mobile Applications on the iPhone.
