Data Science: Machine Learning Course (April 5-6 at Hackbright Academy)
Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 1:00 PM - Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 4:00 PM (PDT)
San Francisco, CA
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
What do machine learning and data science mean to a software engineer?
Learn about what it means to be a data scientist, and specifically how a data scientist would tackle a toy problem. The instructor will select a prediction task and explore various ways of approaching it, working with real data along the way, and learning about the performance, code, development trade-offs. The course will go in depth with algorithms and discuss at a high level where they fit into the machine learning and data science landscape. You'll have a working (and extensible, if you like) API written in Python+Flask for prediction/recommendation tasks by the end of the course.
Key Course Takeaways:
- Familiarity with basic statistics (e.g., variance)
- Familiarity with basic probability theory
- Familiarity with at least one database (e.g., MySQL or MongoDB)
- Familiarity with distributed processing concepts (e.g., worker queues, shared data stores)
Employee Sponsorship: In the past, employers have sponsored their employees to take Hackbright Academy courses. Dedicating time outside of the office is an effective way to skill up. Ask us for a template letter to send to your manager if you'd like to request employer sponsorship.
