Please join us at the first ever, Darkness to Light Spring Luncheon featuring guest speaker Marilyn Van Derbur. This former Miss America is also the author of Miss America By Day which chronicles her journey to becoming a survivor of sexual abuse by her millionaire father.
Marilyn Van Derbur was crowned Miss America while she was a student at the University of Colorado, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She went on to become a successful motivational speaker. Because of her work motivating adults and teenagers, she was named “Outstanding Woman Speaker in America”, inducted into the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame, and was the first woman given the highest speaking award possible by the National Speakers Association. She has produced 24 films, two of which won national and international awards.
As a childhood incest survivor, she speaks nationwide about sexual abuse prevention and recovery. Additionally, she has devoted much of her adult life to raising national awareness and understanding of sexual abuse and its long-term effects. In 1993, she co-founded two national not-for-profit organizations, the American Coalition for Abuse Awareness and One Voice, dedicated to public education and strengthening laws protecting victims of sexual abuse.
This is sure to be a powerful and enlightning event. It's not one to miss!

When & Where
Darkness to Light
The ultimate mission of D2L, to end childhood sexual abuse, can only be accomplished by sharing the solution of prevention, awareness and education with more and more people. This in turn, builds momentum and over time, changes the way our nation and culture cares for, protects and nurtures our children. Being an active participant in the mission to end childhood sexual abuse is one of the most rewarding things we will ever do – and we cannot do it without you.
We believe that learning the facts about childhood sexual abuse helps prevent it. Talking about it helps prevent it. Getting involved helps prevent it. The truth is, if childhood sexual abuse can be prevented, it can be stopped. That’s why D2L exists – to empower adults through awareness and educational programs to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to childhood sexual abuse.
