Danjuma Adamu, founder and musical director of DANJUMA & ONOLA, was born into a family tradition of music in the city of Lagos, Nigeria (West Africa). Danjuma has played and recorded with King Sunny Ade, Fela Kuti Anikulapo, Babatunde Olatunji, Hugh Masakela, ZuluSpear. In 1983 he helped to cast the band O.J. Ekemode and the Nigerian all Stars with whom he recorded and toured North America. In 1986 he co-founded two popular Bay Area Afro-Beat bands, Kotoja Ntu Shamala.
With Onola, Danjuma is still interested in pursuing African styles of music, shaped and informed by other musical influences. Years ago, in Nigeria, he lived for a time in the home of Fela, a major international star, and, since Fela's death twelve years ago, Danjuma said he feels the need to carry on by spreading HighLife,Afro-beat,Sukus styles of African Music to the widest possible audience and to be part of those Music styles evolution - with a very modern sound, supported by his international band.
Danjuma is a " Putumayo " Recording Artist from Lagos Nigeria. The band " ONOLA " is an International band based in Santa Cruz CA, with members from Nigeria, Italy, Senegal, Camerun, Israel & Los Angeles.
