Event Details

Dance the Dream Los Angeles is an all-city dance and music tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, produced by The Dream at 50 and co-presented by Dance Camera West in partnership with Benjamin Millepied's L.A. Dance Project, The Music Center, L.A. Arts Alliance, Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, Centre Theatre Group, LA Commons, California Alliance for Arts Education, Dance Resource Center, The Movement Talent Agency, Inner-City Arts, Performing Arts LIVE, Dance Channel TV, CalArts Community Arts Partnership, and KIIS FM.

Everyone is invited to join L.A.'s top professional and student dancers in celebrating the values of brotherhood proclaimed by Dr. King. All untrained dance participants will be taught, on location, very basic moves to be repeated in unison with the assistance of volunteers. Dance the Dream Los Angeles is being taped for the feature documentary, The Dream.

The mission of Dance the Dream is to demonstrate the creative dynamism of cultural diversity, to build stronger communities based on the model of collaboration in the arts, and to inspire and empower the next generation to follow in the foot steps of Martin Luther King, Jr. and make the world better.

Dance the Dream Los Angeles is a featured presentation of THE DREAM@50, which is produced by Richard Karz in partnership with the United Nations, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), YouTube, International Theatre Institute, Global Arts Link, Americans for the Arts, Dance/USA, National Dance Education Organization, AAHPERD (American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance), United Way, National Education Association, National Art Education Association, National Council of Teachers of English, National Council for the Social Studies, Arts Schools Network, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Dance Camera West, Dance Films Association, CBS Outdoor, and public school systems, museums, public libraries, airports, and mass transit systems.
