Single-parent families are more likely to live in poverty and experience stress, both of which put children at increased risk for poor academic achievement and behavioral and health-related problems. In 2011, 21% of the families in the county with children under 18 years of age were headed by a single parent, with 70% of these single-parent households headed by a female. While the child poverty rate for San Mateo County is 10%, it rises to 19% for children in single-mother households.
All are invited to our 10th Annual Dads Count Breakfast and Awards Ceremony. Join us in support of father-involvement in the lives of children as we work to raise awareness about this important issue. We will be honoring Senator Jerry Hill, one of the "Founding Fathers" of the Collaborative. Our keynote speaker will be nationally acclaimed, child advocate Michael Pritchard.

The Dads Count Breakfast is dependent upon sponsorships and donations of committed organizations, agencies, businesses and individuals for its continued success and the overall success of the Fatherhood Collaborative program. In addition to supporting general breakfast event expenses, income generated from sponsorships funds the Fatherhood Collaborative hosted events including the Dad & Me series (Library, Pool and Park) and other events and initiatives the Collaborative pursues in our mission to provide a forum to address and support the importance of men and fathers taking an active role in the well being of children and families. We believe that increased education, awareness and access to services provide family success, improve quality of life and ultimately meet a long term goal of minimizing the demand for county human services.
