Summary of "The Engagement Gap"
Some development efforts suffer from low engagement, having a hard time connecting with individuals and communities to drive sustained adoption. Aid organizations traditionally chalk this up to a lack of skills in "demand-generation" often engaging marketing firms to take on this task once they have designed their programming. But these one-way broadcast approaches miss a huge opportunity to engage communities as meaningful stakeholders in the design process and to bridge the gap between awareness, engagement and impact. This is where design firms are fundamentally different partners than marketing agencies. This talk will look at frog's work in mobile health to provide a first-person perspective on the increased role of user-centered design in development efforts.
