Dear CYS Alumni and Friends,
We'd like to let you know about a change of plans for our upcoming 60th anniversary alumni reunion. It turns out that there aren’t enough alumni musicians who would be able to participate in a concert on May 19 to fill out a full symphony orchestra. Fortunately Leo has come with an exciting alternative - we are inviting the alumni musicians who’ve indicated they’d like to play to join with the current CYS Orchestra on stage at the Flint Center in Cupertino on Sunday afternoon, May 20 at 2:30pm. The combined piece that current and former CYSers will collaborate on will be Tchaikovsky's “Romeo and Juliet Overture” (and perhaps a special encore). It should be terrific fun for orchestra and audience alike. Also, rather than have the alumni dinner on Saturday evening as originally planned, we'll hold an alumni reception at Flint following the concert on Sunday, and then later we’ll have an optional dinner at a nearby restaurant.
Since this is a late change, we won't be charging alumni for either of the events, for the concert - whether they choose to play or just enjoy from the audience - or for the reception. The dinner will be a Japanese style buffet that folks can choose to attend or not, and then just pay individually at that time. Keep an eye on our website for additional details www.cys.org.
Please join us on Sunday, May 20th as we celebrate 60 years of music making together - alumni and current members - on the Flint stage. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone there.

When & Where
California Youth Symphony
This season (2011-2012), the California Youth Symphony celebrates its 60th anniversary. Since its founding in early 1952, CYS has grown from a single orchestra to eight ensembles involving nearly 500 young musicians from over 100 Bay Area schools. The organization has earned a worldwide reputation for excellence and innovation, including being the first youth orchestra ever to tour overseas (Japan 1963). Over the years CYS has had only three music directors -- Aaron Sten, our founder; Lauren Jakey; and Leo Eylar, our current director who is celebrating 21 years with CYS!
The mission of the California Youth Symphony is to provide talented young musicians of high school age and younger with the finest musical experience.
