Event Details

Join the Detroit Eastside Community Collaborative and Tour de Troit for the Second Annual Cycle into Spring!

Enjoy a pleasant pedal from the Detroit River to Eight Mile and back along the Conner Creek Greenway (CCG), nine miles of cycling infrastructure that traces the original Conner Creek and links people, parks, green spaces, neighborhoods, schools and shops. Five miles are complete; funds raised at Cycle into Spring! will support programming and the development of the final four miles of the greenway.

The 20-mile ride will begin at 9 a.m. and is police-escorted as well as sweeper and SAG-supported. Sites along the way include Coleman A. Young International Airport, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, the Milbank Trail, the Chrysler Jefferson North Assembly Plant and Chandler Park.

A t-shirt is included with all pre-registration; size not guaranteed after May 3. Refreshments provided at rest stop.

An optional bar-b-q lunch catered by Slow's To Go is available after the ride.

Cycle Into Spring costs $25 or $35 with lunch. Non-riders are able to pre-register for just lunch for $15.

Day-of ride registration is available for $35; t-shirt not guaranteed. Residents of GGC-adjacent zip codes (48213, 48214, 48215, 48205, and 48234) can register day-of for $25!

The 2012 Cycle Into Spring, the inaugural such event, attracted almost 250 riders and raised over $2,000 for the Conner Creek Greenway.

More Info About the Conner Creek Greenway:

The Conner Creek Greenway was initiated by the Detroit Eastside Community Collaborative (DECC) to connect eastside residents and visitors to the Detroit River. DECC has completed almost five of the nine planned miles of path to date. The first phase of the Conner Creek Greenway is the delightful little Milbank Greenway, passing through the abandoned Milbank right-of-way between Van Dyke and Conner near 8 Mile Road. Other completed sections include a mixed-use biking and walking path beginning at Conner Playfield at Conner & Harper and ending at Coleman A. Young International Airport, bike lanes along St. Jean from Mack to Jefferson, and a mixed-use biking and walking path along Conner and Clairpointe south of Jefferson, improving Maheras Gentry Park. The next improvements will begin Summer 2012 between 6 and 8 mile Roads along Outer Drive and Conner St.  The vision for the Conner Creek Greenway is to eventually link all the eastside communities, social agencies, schools, recreation areas and businesses. For example, a student at Osborn High School could meet her friends at the Lipke Recreational Center, stop at the Warren Conner Shopping District and continue on to a family picnic at Maheras Gentry Park. A map of the greenway can be found here.
