The heat is on! The First Annual Curry Crawl, celebrating an international culinary sensation with a nearly 4,000-year history, is scheduled for June 24th at STRAITS Asian Bistro in CITYCENTRE. A spicy mix of top toques will battle it out to win the title of “Best Curry” while showcasing and sampling their competing creations for judges and attendees. Judges will award first and second place prizes, and a “People’s Choice” honor will be determined by guest votes. Celebrated author Shubhra Ramineni, will be signing personalized copies of her award-winning cookbook, Entice with Spice, Easy Indian Recipes for Busy People (winner of the 2010 Gourmand Award for the Best Indian Cookbook in the United States, and the 2010 Gourmand Award for the top 4 Indian Cookbooks in the world). Books will be available for purchase by River Oaks Bookstore; part of the proceeds will be donated to PULSE.
In addition, the event will also coincide with CITYCENTRE’s Sunday Market, featuring more than 20 home, fashion, art, gift and accessory vendors plus sultry sounds from jazz performer Harry Sheppard.
Event proceeds will benefit PULSE, a new – and first ever – young professionals group supporting Houston’s St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital. Staff and members will be on hand to discuss program goals, membership opportunities and benefits. For more information on supporting St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, visit www.stlukestexas.org/giving.
