Culver City Food Swap 1/26/14
Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (PST)
Culver City, CA
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Join us for our first swap of 2014!!
Please read carefully, as some details of the swap are updated for the new year, based on swapper suggestions. We look forward to seeing you soon!
The past two swaps have had a large percent of pre-registered guests not show up. Some swappers in attendance suggested a small donation be charged with each ticket. As we're trying to keep this a money-free event, we are asking swappers to email a confirmation that they will be attending in lieu of money. We're open to suggestions and hope that this will help people cancel ahead of time if they are not planning on coming.
We welcome everyone, as long as you bring something you made, grew, or foraged yourself. You must pre-register AND CONFIRM ONE WEEK PRIOR to attend. If you plan to bring a family member or friend who will be swapping their own foods, please register them separately.
A food swap is an event where swappers share homemade, homegrown, or foraged foods with each other. Swaps allow direct trades to take place between attendees, e.g., a loaf of bread for a jar of pickles or a half-dozen backyard eggs. What you bring and swap is up to you.
Sunday, January 26, from 6-8pm
Please arrive promptly at 6 pm. The bakery closes to the public at 6, and we will begin setting up our items at that time. The introductions will begin about 6:20, after members have all arrived and had an opportunity to set up. The event will last no longer than 2 hours.

What to bring
• Food to swap: All swap items must be homemade, homegrown, or foraged by you. Think preserves, baked goods, fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, condiments, beverages … you name it! Typically popular items include: home canned items (that are processed and can be stored), bacon anything, home made dairy items, home made alcohols, spices and unique foods. Bring as little or as much as you like. You can bring a bunch of one thing or multiples of a few different things. The possibilities are endless!
Keep in mind that swappers will be examining and picking up your goods, so be sure to package them in a way that protects the food and makes it clear the amounts you want to swap. Please make sure to include on the packaging storage information and how long the item is good.
If possible, you should also bring samples for others to try. Part of the fun of seeing everyone's food is to try it. We know samples aren't always possible, but please bring them if you can!
• Swap card:
Bring one swap card for each different item you're swapping. For example, if you're bringing 5 jars of strawberry jam, 5 jars of apricot jam, and 10 bunches of rosemary, fill out 1 card for the strawberry jam, 1 card for the apricot jam, and 1 card for the rosemary. Fill out the top part only (Who, What, Notes).
Swap cards can be downloaded here (click, download and print).
You may use any style of swap card that you prefer.
• Release form:
Please note that you will need to sign a release form in order to attend. Release forms will be available upon arrival at the event. Please email me if you'd like yours sooner.
• Water Bottle:
We try to make our swap as low impact as possible. There will be water and cups available, or beverages for purchase, but why not bring your own reusable water bottle?
The Honor Code
This is a community event; however, participants must pre-register, which means this event is operated as a private club.
In addition, all swap participants adhere to an honor code of using the highest cleanliness standards in their own kitchens and gardens to prepare their swap items. Swap participants must agree to the following terms before registering:
• By participating in this event, you are acknowledging that the food items being shared are not necessarily prepared in commercial kitchens or spaces inspected by any government agency.
• By participating in this event, you are also acknowledging that you will use the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in food preparation.
• By participating in this event, you assume all liability; specifically, you agree to not hold liable food swap hosts, swap venue owners/providers, or other swap participants.
