Culinaria Experience Ybor City
Tuesday, May 22, 2012 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM (PDT)
Want to try the food at a bunch of restaurants in Tampa Bay but don't want to visit them all? It’s always great to visit a local taste event and sample dishes from many of the restaurants in the Tampa Bay area. You'll get to taste samples of signatures dishes, tantalizing desserts, delicious and diverse offerings from the top participating restaurants.
The Ybor City Culinaria Experience from May 18-27 takes this opportunity a step further and offers you the chance to actually meet the Chefs at various Ybor restaurants and even participate in a cooking seminar with them! The goal of the 10 day event is to emphasize the history of Ybor City, the many dining opportunities there, and increase foot traffic into and around the district.
Green Iguana: Join Chef Bryce at Green Iguana for a cooking demonstration on Tuesday, May 22 at 2pm
Since 1994 The Green Iguana located in the heart of Tampa's National Historic district mixes the perfect blend of Florida style good times with a splash of old Tampa history. A fixture of the Ybor nightlife scene and a staple on 7th Ave, it has five full bars, two large dance floors, a stage, DJ booth, and a new craft beer bar. There's also sidewalk seating that provides the ideal spot for highly entertaining people watching.
Chef Bryce started in the food business right after college, was accepted into the Disney Culinary School and worked at Disney for about 1.5 years. He moved on to another restaurant in Lake Buena Vista village, worked there for a year, and moved to Tampa with his roommates on a whim. Chef Bryce worked at the Colonnade Restaurant for awhile, then in a completely different change of pace, put himself through mechanic school, working at Iavarones during that time. He then worked in the mechanic field for a few years, became a mortgage broker, and did sales. “But then I realized how much I liked and missed the restaurant business. I don’t consider myself a chef, but I’m a numbers man. I worked here at Green Iguana a few years ago, went on to do catering for two years, and now I just came back about eight months ago. And I plan to stay.”
