Agenda

Successful Development Continues in Matteson

The Village of Matteson has experienced successful redevelopment and growth during a slow economy. The Village of Matteson has remained steadfast over the last couple of years with new stores, redevelopment and newly developed projects, and public/private partnerships. New strategies and policies have played a significant role in new growth such as the return of the Holiday Inn flag. These strategies will continue to add to the successful growth of the community for years to come. The future continues to look bright for the Village of Matteson with more opportunities available for redevelopment as well as shovel ready sites.

World Business Chicago: A Plan for Economic Growth and Jobs

This Plan aims to assure that Chicago's and the region's future is productive and prosperous. We must make the most of our assets-our central location, our global logistics infrastructure, our manufacturing promise, our immigrant network, and our leading universities-to tap and engage market opportunities around the country and the world so we can better serve families, businesses, and neighborhoods here at home. We will know we have succeeded when we see measurable improvements in the region's economic output, jobs, productivity, income and wages. Discussed will be two strategies: Become a leading hub or advanced manufacturing and Enhance our competitive position as a leading transportation and logistics hub.

Cook County/SSMMA “Illinois Jobs Now” Chicago Southland Fiber Network Project Underway

Cook County and SSMMA (South Suburban Mayors & Managers Association), with grant funding from the State of Illinois “Illinois Jobs Now” program, has begun construction on over 60 miles of fiber optic backbone and lateral infrastructure linking the South Suburban municipalities, Public Safety sites, Community Colleges, economic development fiber optic access sites along the I-57 corridor and Cook County anchor locations. For this initial phase of the project, the fiber optic infrastructure will be used to provide backbone connectivity to the SSMMA constituent communities bordering I-57 and other key sites in the corridor establishing access to high capacity Internet services. The Southland Fiber Network will enable our region to more effectively attract companies like data centers, financial back office firms, distribution and manufacturing centers managing world wide supply chains. The Chicago Southland Fiber Network will offer Internet access and fiber connectivity in the entire I-57 corridor but will focus on manufacturing, distribution, data center companies to create expanded Commercial Broadband service areas along I-57 in University Park, Matteson, and Richton Park; I -80 East around Tinley Park, and 159th Street out to the CN Intermodal Site.

Thorn Creek Conservancy Industrial Park

Thorn Creek Conservancy Industrial Park initiates south suburban Cook County to sustainable green development and provides a central location for land conservation and environmental learning. The project is a ±100-acre land tract located at the northeast corner of Route 30 and State Street in Chicago Heights, Illinois. The industrial park reintroduces 60 plus acres of prime industrial space and 30 plus acres of native habitat, both wetland and prairie, for wildlife and human benefit with potential for a contiguous green corridor along a bike path to existing open spaces. This unique opportunity is ideal for technologically "green" companies to bring an influx of sustainable jobs into the local economy.
