The first RIT CS4HS explorations in computing workshop for high school teachers is sponsored by Google. The workshop is open to any high school teacher who is interested in bringing computer science ideas into his or her classroom, who wants to learn about computational thinking, who wants to keep abreast of developments and opportunities in Computer Science, or who wants to keep up with and provide guidance to computer-savvy high school students.

The CS4HS workshop will run in parallel with the  SMI Teachers’ Workshop. Sessions will be parallel; teachers who register for either workshop may attend sessions from both.  (We ask, however, that you register for the workshop in which you’re primarily interested.)  Participants in the two workshops will dine together and take coffee breaks together. For more information on the SMI workshop, go to https://www.rit.edu/cos/math/smi/

Many professionals and co-op students are among this year’s confirmed speakers:

Thomas Salter, Pictometry, "CS & Oblique Aerial Images"

Googler, Google, "Computer Science at Google"

Stephanie Ludi, RIT Software Engienering, "Inclusive Robotics"

Andres Kwasinski, RIT Computer Engineering, " Control the World by Adding and Multiplying"

The CS4HS Workshop is free, thanks to the support of Google.  Please don’t register unless you’re sure that you want to attend.  Please forward this announcement to any teachers who might want to attend.

For those of you coming from out of town, here are links to some local hotels.  The Radisson http://www.radisson.com/hotels/nyrochrd is on the RIT campus, so it’s convenient.  It’s about a ten minute walk from the Radisson to the location of the workshop, and there’s bus service.

There’s also bus service from the RIT Inn and Conference Center.  The RIT Inn is run by RIT but, paradoxically, is not on the campus.  It’s a bit less expensive than the Radisson:www.ritinn.com

The town of Scottsville is 10 to 15 minutes away along the Genesse River. If you’re driving, you could stay there, you’ll probably find less expensive (and more  picturesque) accommodations there.

This link contains a much longer list of local hotels and inns:
