Crowdfunding Your Project: Promise, Progress and Peril

This month Innovation SoCal takes a look at crowdfunding and its potential to accelerate your projects and new ventures. We are familiar with Kickstarter and other platforms for funding creative and technical projects. Since 2009, Kickstarter alone has found over $1 trillion for over 67 thousand projects from over 2 million backers. The JOBS Act of 2012 brings similar promise for equity funding new ventures. This year, hundreds of equity crowdfunding platforms are expected to raise a total of over $700 million for early-stage companies. But until the final regulations are approved, some recommend caution due to the restrictions and reporting burden they may place on funded ventures.

Please join us for an evening of quiet but intense conversation about these new ways of advancing your projects and new ventues.

Rania Nasis ImageFEATURED GUEST.  Rania Nasis, MD, MBA is Managing Director at Poliwogg, a financial services firm with an online crowdfunding platform for funding early-stage healthcare companies. She is also a founder and current Chair of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs (SoPE), a non-profit global biomedical and healthcare innovation network. Previously she was General Manager at California Stem Cell, Inc., a stem cell therapeutics company now part of Neostem, Inc. Dr. Nasis holds an MD from New Jersey Medical School, an MBA from UCI and BS from Drexel University.

BRING A GUEST.  Enrich the conversation. Your interested associates are welcome.

WARM-UP DINNER.  As you may know, several of us meet at 5pm for a casual, no-host dinner at a nearby restaurant. This provides an opportunity for deeper conversation and can ease the traffic burden.
