Description

Waste Wise invites you to a free workshop on Message in a plastic bottle, a cross-curriculum sustainability unit for Year 7. Students study the topic of bottled water and plastic waste in science, maths, geography and English.

“The activities were easy to use and are strongly linked to the curriculum. They fit in well with preparations for NAPLAN. Students used data they collected in each learning area to write a persuasive speech about choosing tap water instead of bottled water. Teachers were surprised by how easy it was to collaborate.” Kylie Kingdon, Emmanuel Catholic College.

This workshop is ideal for Year 7 teachers in science, maths, geography and English as well as Principals and Year 7 coordinators. This workshop is free and we offer teacher relief payments for four staff per school to attend.

The workshop will include:

  • A fun look at the issues of bottled water and plastic waste
  • An overview of the Message in a bottle curriculum guide
  • Case studies on using the guide across four learning areas (Curtin College of the Arts and Emmanuel Catholic College)
  • Details on becoming a Waste Wise school and access to Waste Wise grants
  • Free curriculum and resources (Waste Wise Schools Booklet and USB)
