Crime after Crime Poster

Crime after Crime tells the dramatic story of the legal battle to free Debbie Peagler, an incarcerated survivor of domestic violence. More than 26 years in prison could not crush the spirit of this determined woman, despite the wrongs she suffered—first at the hands of an abusive boyfriend who forced her into prostitution, and later by prosecutors who used the threat of the death penalty to corner her into a life behind bars as a result of her connection to her abuser’s murder.

Following the screening, join us for a Q&A discussion with the volunteer attorneys who fought on Debbie's behalf. Nadia Castro and Joshua Safran will discuss the roadblocks they encountered in navigating a domestic violence case and will share what we can do to promote a more just system in which we these barriers to women’s health occur less and less.
