Blair Sligar is the founder and owner of a woodworking company named Hog Eat Hog where he designs and builds furniture, sculpture, and installations. Blair got started building when he was in his early teens - mostly small sculptures and woodworking projects. Blair studied at U.C.F. for a degree in Sculpture, but left after a few years to pursue growing the Hog Eat Hog brand.
Currently, Blair builds mostly custom furniture, but he also continues to put work in several retail/dining/corporate spaces in town. In the future, he wants the bulk of his custom work to be large-scale installations in public spaces such as churches, airports, hospitals, etc.
Blair is interested in working in a way he can show the process of construction in the final piece - be it an illustration or a piece of furniture. Visually, he is interested in designing things that are put down in layers and intersect with each other in a compelling way. Wood, as his primary material, is fascinating because it shows evidence of how the tree that you are working from grew. As you shape it, you reveal this layered history - and this never ceases to fascinate.
