You are Invited To Participate in a Two Day Event with The Hawaii Department of Health’s Adult Mental Health Division and the GAINS Center on the Topic of 

Creating a Trauma-Informed Mental Health System of Care            

Day 1: January 15, 2013

Adult Mental Health Division (AMHD) Trauma Informed Care Initiative (TIC-IT) Project

Target Audience: Senior leadership of AMHD Community Mental Health Centers, Clubhouses, and contracted service providers; Hawaii Certified Peer Specialists; mental health consumer advocacy organizations

8:30 a.m.– 11:15 a.m.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          

The AMHD will present the history, current status, challenges, future direction of its SAMHSA - funded  Mental Health Transformation TIC-IT project. Particular focus will be placed on collaborations, partnerships, and consumer/peer involvement. Ample time will be afforded to attendees  to ask questions and provide candid feedback and suggestions.                      

11:15 a.m.-12:30p.m.

Working Lunch                   

Structured discussion facilitated by GAINS Center to obtain peer input re: Trauma-Informed Mental Health Services and Environment of Care

Day 2 (AM): Jan 16, 2013                                                                                 

Technical Asssistance by the GAINS Center

Morning Target Audience: Clinical supervisors and team leads of Hawaii’s mental health service providers; Hawaii Trauma Alliance agency staff

 8:30 a.m.- Noon  The GAINS Center will present technical assistance to mental health service providers on developing a trauma-informed infrastructure to create a trauma-informed care environment and more effectively utilize peer support workers within their organizations.

Noon- 1:00 p.m. 

Working Lunch

Working Lunch bringing together attendees of the morning and afternoon sessions for a group discussion facilitated by the GAINS Center
 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. 

Afternoon Target Audience: Hawaii Certified Peer Specialists, other peer support workers (WRAP facilitators, peer benefits counselors, etc.),  Family Support Workers, mental health consumer advocates

The GAINS Center will present technical assistance to individuals in peer or family support roles within Hawaii’s mental health system to help prepare them for working in a trauma-informed care environment.




 General Information

  • While the morning and afternoon sessions on Day 2 address specific audiences, all parties are invited to attend the entire day of training as space permits.
  • Attendance is limited to a maximum of 35 persons for each session.
  • Agencies may be limited to 2 persons per session to allow all interested agencies to attend.
  • Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided to all attendees both days.
  • Parking at Kinau Hale may be limited due to the legislative session. Please allow extra time to find parking.
