Conversations on Conservation: Revitalizing Québec’s Freshwater Ecosystem
Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 4:45 PM to 7:00 PM (EST)
Join Montreal-based musician, Chris Velan and friends for a live performance, presentations and complimentary networking reception hosted by 1% for the Planet.
1% for the Planet, member companies, and the NGOs they support will talk about the work they're collaborating on to revitalize the freshwater ecosystem in Quebec. Waterways throughout Québec are threatened by industrial pollution, shipping, oil and gas development, and other economic activity. The presenters will share examples of public engagement and advocacy campaigns to protect rivers such as the St. Lawrence, and concerted interventions to improve water quality and aquatic habitats in urban areas.
Chris Velan is a 1% member and Montreal-based singer-songwriter and guitarist. He is a passionate environmental and humanitarian activist, involved in CPAWS's Big Wild Initiative, focused on protecting Canada's wild places.
Featuring business leaders and local NGO leaders:
- Daniel Cotte, CEO Naya Water
- André Martin, Président-directeur général, Fondation de la faune du Québec
- Karel Mayrand, Directeur général pour le Québec, David Suzuki Foundation
- Melody Badgett, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Acquisition & Membership, 1% for the Planet
