Conversations in Leadership Series: Jeffrey Laurenti
Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM (EDT)
New York, NY
The Colin L. Powell Center for Leadership and Service proudly announces the inauguration of its first annual “Conversations in Leadership” series at The City College of New York. Our program brings together experienced policymakers and opinion leaders from all levels of politics—local, state, national and federal—to discuss their substantive areas of expertise, their experiences working in and studying the public sector, and the lessons they have learned about effective leadership with the City College community.
This spring, the Powell Center’s Michael Busch will sit down with four special guests to discuss leadership and policy in the public sphere. We are honored to welcome Jeffrey Laurenti, Senior Fellow at the Century Foundation, as our fourth and final guest of the semester. Mr. Laurenti has served as director for TCF’s international task force on Afghanistan in its regional and multilateral dimensions and as co-director of TCF’s peace and security initiative with the Center for American Progress. He is the author of numerous monographs on subjects such as international peace and security, terrorism, UN reform, international law and justice, and other issues dealt with by the multilateral system. He was executive director of policy studies at the United Nations Association of the United States until 2003, and then served seven years on the association’s Board of Directors. He also served as deputy director of the United Nations Foundation's United Nations and Global Security initiative, which provided inputs to the work on international security of the High-Level Panel on Threats, Challenges, and Change commissioned by U.N. secretary-general Kofi Annan. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He was candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from New Jersey in 1986, has advised several presidential campaigns, and from 1978 to 1984 was executive director of the New Jersey Senate. His writing and analysis have appeared in the Christian Science Monitor, the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, and on National Public Radio, as well as numerous international policy journals and media.
The conversation with Mr. Laurenti will take place on Thursday, April 19 from 12:30-1:45 at at the Colin Powell Center for Leadership and Service (Shepard Hall, Room 558) on the campus of the City College of New York.
