Event Details

Join your colleagues from across the state to learn how contextualized currriculum, created through the Transformation Agenda, has been used to enrich ABE and developmental courses and enhance student success along their chosen career paths.  Participants may be eligible for stipends - contact your college's Transformation Agenda Project Manager for information.

Kelly Sullivan and Christian Bednar of North Shore Community College will share lessons learned implementing contextualized modules focused on various careers in healthcare, advanced manufacturing and IT. The webinar will also offer an overview and discussion of the modules for those who are new to the curriculum and want to use it in their classrooms. In-Person Learning & Working Session - "Results from Contextualization Initiatives on two Campuses and Next Steps in Contextualized Curriculum for Technical and Developmental Programs."

This session is an opportunity for administrators, instructors teaching healthcare, advanced manufacturing, IT, and developmental math and literacy faculty to discuss how contextualizationcan be used to strengthen students’ transition to and success in college-level coursework, adapt contextualized modules for their programs and identify needs for further development of contextualized curriculum.

The session will include:

  • Kristen McKenna and Kevin Forgard (Bristol CC) and Kristen Daignault (QCC), early adopters of the contextualized curriculum modules, will share lessons learned from each of their campuses.
  • Hands-on planning time for teams of instructors to expand collaboration and contextualization on their campuses.
  • An important discussion of next steps in new module development and/or expanding the current modules.

3 Regional In-Person Learning and Working Sessions - “Contextualizing ABE, ESL, ESOL and GED Programs and Strengthening Connections with Programs on Campuses and in CBOs”

Three regional sessions will focus on adapting and integrating contextualized math and literacy modules in health care, advanced manufacturing and information technology into ABE and ESOL programs on campuses and community-based programs. 

  • Instructors will share their models and experience integrating contextualized curriculum.
     
  • There will be hands-on planning time focused on adapting curriculum for ABE and ESOL classes used modules created by early adopters. 
  • This session is an opportunity for campus and community-based programs to strengthen relationships and align curriculum.

For: All instructors and administrators of ESL/ESOL/ABE/GED Programs both on campuses and in CBOs
