Fast forward a few months: your product or service is booming and the social networks are alight with your name. How did you develop such a loyal following?

In this class, you'll learn  actionable tips & tricks  to achieve  social, organic, high-quality growth. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to be a black hat SEO expert or a social media master to build a product, content site, and/or startup with an awesome, engaged, exponentially-growing audience.


  • Identify the right target audience/users/customers to tailor your message and platform
  • Define your brand’s personality & how that affects so many unexpectedly related decisions
  • Understand the importance of design for legitimacy and why it’s worth, if anything, to spend money on it


Beginner - Intermediate level. For people who already have a creative project, but are looking for good press, a bigger audience, or journalistic coverage. Something to take notes on, paper or digital. Have a personal profile already made on Facebook, Twitter and/or Google+.

Monica LeasDigital Strategist, Journalist

Monica Leas is a content strategist, journalist and digital executive with 15 years of experience creating and managing content of all kinds. She is passionate about developing fresh digital brands and great storytelling. 

For the last two years, Monica led the bi-coastal digital content and social media teams for Current TV based in San Francisco, where she and her team launched 7 new digital platforms in less than two years. 

Before moving to California, Monica spent 10 years in New York City, where she worked for NBC News. Monica started her career producing breaking news and documentaries with Dateline NBC and Tom Brokaw. After a stint reporting for the statewide newspaper in Little Rock, Arkansas, she returned to NBC, where she launched several digital products for the network, including theGrio.com, a leading African-American news platform, and NBC Learn, an online video destination for teachers and students.

Raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Monica spent her undergraduate years at the University of Pennsylvania. She received her masters in journalism from Columbia University.
