Virality is the holy grail that founders, CEO's, and product owners fervently seek.  It's what turns  "thefacebook.com" into a multi-billion dollar empire and a YouTube video into the next big music sensation.  But it's not the share button, or the "Give $10 get $10," that makes a product intrinsically viral.

Little research has been done to codify what actually makes a product, service, news article, or anything else spread like wildfire, but for the last decade, Wharton Professor Jonah Berger has researched the science behind why things catch on.  He's studied why New York Times articles make the paper’s own Most E-mailed List, why products get word of mouth, and how social influence shapes everything from the cars we buy to the clothes we wear to the names we give our children.  Most recently, he has shared his research to rave reviews at the First Round Capital CEO summit and the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco.

At this Future History Maker's event, Professor Berger will share his thoughts on the science of virality with you. His book "Contagious: Why Things Catch On" will be available for sale after the event.
