Connecting Communities to Coverage:

Outreach and Enrollment Workshop

This hands-on workshop is designed to support anyone who will be directly involved in managing or implementing campaigns to educate families and children on health insurance options or facilitate enrollment into coverage. This workshop will provide practical strategies that agencies of any size, with any budget (or no budget), can utilize to connect their communities to health coverage, including All Kids, Family Care, and new coverage made available by the Affordable Care Act (also known as federal health reform or Obamacare).

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand   the health insurance options available to families and children in Illinois   with incomes under 400% of the federal poverty level, including new coverage   made available by the Affordable Care Act.
  2. Learn   how to use new tools and resources for enrolling families in coverage for   health insurance and other public benefit programs such as SNAP (food stamps).
  3. Gain   access to free and low-cost resources to support outreach and education   campaigns that can be implemented in your community.

Who should attend?

This training is open to any person or organization that has plans to educate community members about or facilitate enrollment into new and existing health coverage opportunities. Participants may include, but are not limited to: In-Person Counselors, Navigators, and Certified Application Counselors; community-based organizations; advocacy groups; health care providers, including school health centers, federally qualified health centers, and health departments;); faith groups; business leaders; and others interested in connecting their communities to coverage.

Training capacity is limited, so attendance at any one workshop is limited to five representatives per organization.

Please note: This training does not meet state or federal certification requirements for In Person-Counselors, Navigators, or Certified Application Counselors and does not replace the online or in-person trainings required by the state and/or federal government.

This initiative is a partnership between EverThrive Illinois (Formerly Illinois Maternal and Child Health Coalition), Health & Disability Advocates, The Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, and the American Academy of Pediatrics, Illinois Chapter.
