Alumni Bike Ride
Two of APSU’s faculty members have organized a Bike Ride in Confluence, PA, set for August 2-3, 2013. There will be an 80 and 22 mile bike ride hosted by Dr. Jaime Taylor and Dr. Alex King.
The bike rides from Confluence PA on August 2nd and 3rd will be on the Great Allegheny Passage. http://www.atatrail.org/
On August 2nd we plan to take a bike ride from Confluence to the Eastern Continental divide. This is approximately 40 miles ride one way, resulting in an 80 mile round trip. We will meet at the parking lot of the Lucky Dog cafe (https://www.facebook.com/LuckyDogCafe) at 7:45am to start the trip. Please note that you can turn around at any point, you do not need to make the entire 80 mile trip.
On August 3rd (Saturday) we will take a bike ride from Confluence to Ohiopyle (11 miles one way, or a 22 mile round trip). We will meet at the parking lot of Lucky Dog Cafe (https://www.facebook.com/LuckyDogCafe) at noon. We encourage everyone to have a light lunch before starting the trip.
On August 3rd We will meet at the Lucky Dog Cafe at 5:30pm for dinner hosted by the APSU Alumni Department.
If you are not interested in bike riding, there are many other things to do in the Confluence area. Ohiopyle (ten mile drive from Confluence) has some of the best whitewater rafting on the east coast. The Yough Lake is within two miles of Confluence; pontoon boats can be rented at (https://www.facebook.com/YoughLakeMarina/notes). Frank Lloyd Wright's most famous house "Fallingwater" is twelve miles from Confluence and the new memorial for the heroic actions of the 40 passengers and crew aboard Flight 93 that thwarted the attack on the U.S. Capitol on 9/11 (http://www.nps.gov/flni/index.htm) is very close by.
