12:30: Presentation by Winona State University

Winona State University will present information on changes to their composites engineering program based on feedback received from the composite companies.

 

1:00: Tour of the Composites Materials Technology Center (COMTEC)

This Composites Materials Technology Center is committed to creating a higher standard for the composites industry. Using WSU students, COMTEC has undertaken hundreds of projects for companies including design, analysis, materials characterization, testing, prototype manufacturing, and customized training.

WSU's Composite Engineering Program & Center

Mission:
To develop creative minds and innovation in the field of composite materials through education, applied research, and scholarly pursuits in collaboration with the composites industry and community.

This program began in the late 1980s to meet the needs of the area's high concentration of composite companies.

Their graduates are now employed by many well-known companies nationwide.

The composites industry, with its unique needs and opportunities, has the ability to unite to ensure a workforce is trained for 21st Century Manufacturing, to pursue opportunitiesfor the industry, consider joint marketing opportunities that benefit the composites industries in the region, and consider collaboration that saves money and makes all businesses more competitive.

There are many examples of businesses uniting around their common industry concerns whose union results in businesses being more competitive.
