Community Wealth-Building by Connecting Local Institutions & Communities
Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM (MST)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
A presentation and discussion about community wealth-building focusing on the buying power of anchor institutions (such as hospitals, universities and museums) to create worker and other cooperative businesses in their communities that will train and hire local workers and provide start-up opportunities in their communities for local entrepreneurs. We have planned a panel of representatives from local anchor institutions and their communities led by Steve Dubb, who is Research Director of The Democracy Collaborative at the University of Maryland and, with Ted Howard, conducted the initial strategic planning for Cleveland’s Evergreen Cooperatives. We hope to have you with us if you are interested in new ways to create relationships with anchor institutions that will lift up the economic and social welfare and involvement of residents in the anchors’ neighboring communities.
