According to the Summit County ADM Board, Emergency Medical Services in Summit County responded to 1.5 drug overdoses per day in 2014. In that same year, over 4,000 Summit County residents sought treatment services for drug and alcohol addiction, while another 16,700 people received preventative services to aid in recovery from addiction.
In Ohio, drugs now account for more accidental deaths than automotive accidents.
However, what sets Summit County apart is how many people we have here who work tirelessly on behalf of those struggling to overcome the disease of addiction. Judges, police officers, lawyers, doctors, nurses, therapists, counselors, case managers and volunteers dedicate countless hours to providing help to people suffering from this disease when they need it most.
In an effort to shine a light on just a few of these amazing people each year, Community Health Center has created The Phoenix Awards, an annual appreciation of people who are working to save lives and reduce the stigma carried by people living with the disease of addiction. It will be a night filled with applause, appreciation, and celebration of those individuals who are on the frontlines fighting against the drug epidemic in our community, and the companies and agencies that support them .
