A Community Forum
Law and the Community: Finding Paths Forward
High school students from the Bay Area Urban Debate League (BAUDL) will debate two contrasting policy proposals about the relationship between law enforcement and the community. The debaters are skilled at presenting multiple facets of complex issues and will provide a 360-degree perspective on the needs of law enforcement and the community.
Panelists from law enforcement, social services, education, and community organizations will then respond to the proposals and engage in a robust discussion about how all stakeholders can collaborate to make positive change in our community.
The debaters from BAUDL have been featured on NPR, in the San Francisco Chronicle and in the Oakland Tribune. The youth dedicate countless hours at evening practices and weekend tournaments, honing their skills of research, advocacy, and the balanced analysis of complex policy issues. They are thoughtful local youth who are grounded in their communities and will inspire you with their intelligence and passion.
