September's Community Cinema film is The Graduates / Los Graduados.
This two-part, bilingual documentary explores pressing issues in education today through the eyes of six Latino and Latina adolescents from across the United States, offering first-hand perspectives on the barriers they have to overcome in order to make their dreams come true. We'll watch part one on Saturday, September 14 at 11am and part two on Saturday, October 12 at 11am. Watch the film trailer and learn more here.
After the screening we'll talk with community partners from Latinos of , a youth development program of the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Collaborative, and Immigration Professionals attorney Jessica Piedra, who works on a variety of issues relating to immigration, including advocating for undocumented youth across the state of Missouri.
Community Cinema is a free monthly screening series presents fascinating documentaries from the Emmy-Award winning PBS series Independent Lens followed by lively discussions that connect films to local organizations and resources. Films are shown from September to June every second Saturday of the month at 11am.
