Event Details

November's Community Cinema film is Solar Mamas. The documentary follows Rafea,  a Bedouin woman living in Jordan who, leaves her village for the first time to go to Barefoot College in India to train to become a solar-energy engineer. The Barefoot College provides training to the rural poor to empower them to make their communities sustainable.

After the film, we'll discuss local sustainable intiatives with The Green Impact Zone, which empowers and connects residents in KC's urban core with tools for controlling energy use and cost.

Community Cinema is a free monthly screening series presents fascinating documentaries from the Emmy-Award winning PBS series Independent Lens followed by lively discussions that connect films to local organizations and resources. Films are shown from September to June every second Saturday of the month at 11am.
