Communications Under Pressure

Presented by PRSA Orlando

August 16, 2012

8 - 10:30 a.m. *Note special time*

Citrus Club

What’s the worst thing that can happen to your organization or client? Are you prepared? Will you know who to call? Are you ready to deal with the onslaught of attention?

Join PRSA Orlando for a special presentation and multi-speaker discussion on crisis communications. Hear from public relations professionals who faced incredible pressure to communicate through the most powerful adversity.

Miranda Lewis - On May 22, 2011, Miranda Lewis’ lifelong home of Joplin, Missouri, was hit by the single deadliest tornado in the United States since modern recordkeeping began. St. John’s Regional Medical Center took a direct hit by the twister that cut a 6-mile-long and 3/4-mile-wide swath through the city. As a media relations specialist at the hospital, Miranda was suddenly thrust into the media spotlight in the nation’s biggest news story.

Sara Howley - Sara is the SVP/Chief Communications & Marketing Officer at Broward Health. In September 2009, her organization was faced with a crisis of the worst kind – one that originates from within. Hear what happened when one of Broward Health’s own employees did something to jeopardize the health and safety of potentially hundreds of patients and what Broward Health did to put the community and internal team at ease.

Crisis communications strategies shared and lessons learned apply to all PR pros – regardless of your industry. You won’t want to miss this event. During Q&A, discussion will be moderated by Sara Brady, an award-winning public relations pro and one of the foremost crisis communications experts in Central Florida.
