Course Title: Communication and Negotiation Skills for the 21st Century Auditor

Synopsis: The recent 2012 IIA Pulse of the Profession survey noted that communication skills are one of the top areas of focus when recruiting 21st century internal auditors. In this course, taught by a former CAE, attendees will learn enhanced auditor communication skills which will provide them the tools necessary to communicate successfully with all levels of personnel including management, board members and other internal audit team-members. As a result, attendees will be able to build highly effective relationships that have a profound impact on influencing change in their organization. During this course, attendees will learn:
- How to identify and remove barriers to communication
- Tips to enhance audit interviews
- Techniques for effectively delivering positive and negative information
- How to negotiate with others to promote a win-win result
- Techniques and tips to strengthen the delivery of audit results (e.g. written and verbal; that are that are clear, concise and improvement oriented)
- How to build better audit client/customer/business partner relationships
- The impact of technology on communication and the 21st Century Auditor
Audience: Auditors with five or less years experience that want to learn more about communication, negotiation and building business relationships. More experienced auditors who want a refresher or to identify new ideas or approaches to further develop communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.

Speaker Bio: Phil Flora is the Principal and Managing Member for FloBiz & Associates, LLC a company that specializes in auditor training. He was the Chief Audit Executive (CAE) at a public corporation for over 16 years from which he recently retired. Phil currently serves as a Trustee on the IIA Research Foundation (IIARF). He is a past Chair of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) International Committee, the Committee of Research & Education Advisors (CREA). He is also a past Vice President of Research for the IIARF. He has servce on IIA International Committees for over 12 years, Public Sector and CREA. He is an active member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Austin Chapter and is past President. Phil recieve the IIA Austin Chapter's 2006 Practioner of the Year Award. He has been a frequent speaker at various national, regional, state and international conferences over the past ten years most recently speaking at the 2013 IIA International Conference.
