Friday, May 24th, 2013 - 9am - 5pm CT

Join Southwest Workers' Union and Center for Media Justice for an interactive and creative daylong session where local artists and organizers will build the relationships and skills to craft effective communications strategies to win the fight for immigrant rights.

Traditional communications training and capacity building within social justice sectors remains limited to methods which are focused on narrow, short-term communications activities and race-blind communications approaches that don't look at larger movement goals. Our curriculum and trainings are rooted in popular education methods and approach strategic communications based on:

  • Directly confronting race and other justice sector wedges;
  • Forging local-to-local communications collaboration;
  • Shifting debate and public opinion, not just getting coverage;
  • Building out and up from participatory communications;
  • Connecting policy issues to organizing through local and cultural strategies.
Join us for the San Antonio stop for our cross-country regional academy series!

Our regional academies are full day events, and intended for an audience of approximately thirty (30) local organizers, artists, and media activists.  Workshop registration fees are $75 USD per participant, with scholarships available.

Workshop alumni gain access to a learning community via our free monthly communications clinics, and receive a free copy of our CultureSHIFT Toolkit, which includes the curriculum, worksheets, and everything you need to get started on your media planning and strategic communications.
