Join Southwest Workers' Union and Center for Media Justice for an interactive and creative daylong session where local artists and organizers will build the relationships and skills to craft effective communications strategies to win the fight for immigrant rights.
Traditional communications training and capacity building within social justice sectors remains limited to methods which are focused on narrow, short-term communications activities and race-blind communications approaches that don't look at larger movement goals. Our curriculum and trainings are rooted in popular education methods and approach strategic communications based on:
Our regional academies are full day events, and intended for an audience of approximately thirty (30) local organizers, artists, and media activists. Workshop registration fees are $75 USD per participant, with scholarships available.
Workshop alumni gain access to a learning community via our free monthly communications clinics, and receive a free copy of our CultureSHIFT Toolkit, which includes the curriculum, worksheets, and everything you need to get started on your media planning and strategic communications.

The Southwest Workers’ Union (SWU) is an organization of low-income workers and families, community residents, and youth, united in one organizational struggle for worker rights, environmental justice and community empowerment.

The Center for Media Justice (CMJ) is a national organizing and training collaborative dedicated to democratizing communications policy and practice through the cultivation of grassroots infrastructure and leadership.
Working with reproductive justice, workers rights, media justice, criminal justice, corporate accountability groups and more, our mission is to cultivate grassroots media leaders and strategies for a more just and participatory democracy-- because the right to communicate belongs to everyone.
