Description

NYC Citizen Corps is hosting a Commodity Distribution Point (CDP) training for community organizations and volunteers.

This training will be available quarterly, or as needed. If you know someone interested in signing up for CDP training you can forward them this link and they can register themselves.

YOU ONLY NEED TO ATTEND CDP TRAINING ONCE. PLEASE REGISTER FOR ONLY ONE SESSION.

The Commodity Distribution Point (CDP) Program is a coordinated, city-led operation to distribute temporarily unavailable life-sustaining commodities (i.e., food and water) to the public following an emergency or disaster that disrupts access to traditional supply chains. In an emergency, volunteers are needed at distribution points located in the community where life-sustaining commodities are distributed to the public.

NYCEM offers training to volunteers interested in staffing the CDP sites. The training includes information about the function of CDP’s during emergencies, protocols, and roles and responsibilities of volunteers. The Food Access Canvassing Training will also be offered in succession of the Commodity Distribution Point (CDP) training. The objective of the Food Canvassing Training is to train volunteers in post-disaster canvassing operations of the private food sector. Trainees will also receive information about how, and when they will be contacted in the event of an emergency. Volunteer roles include:

  • Commodity distribution – volunteers will distribute allocated life-sustaining commodities to the public
  • Storage and handling – volunteers will off-load delivered resources and store and pre-position them for distribution
  • Distribution information to the public – volunteers will help the public move safely and efficiently through the site and provide distribution information to the public
  • Flow Monitor – support the safe and efficient movement of the public through the site and disseminate accurate operational and distribution information to the public
  • Inventory Tracking - assist with inspection, inventory, and recording of arriving supplies and equipment in the Commodity Off-Loading Area.
  • Food Access Canvassing - canvassing teams will survey an impacted neighborhood after a disaster in order to assist with the determination of the incident’s impact on food businesses operations in affected areas.
